Henry Morgan (minister)

Henry Morgan (1825-1907) was a Welsh Calvinistic Methodist minister and hymn writer. Born in Llanfihangel Abercowin, Carmarthenshire, Wales, he was primarily known for his powerful preaching and influential role within the Welsh religious community. Morgan received his theological training at Bala College. He served as minister in several chapels throughout Wales, most notably at Ebenezer Chapel in Swansea for a significant portion of his career. His ministry was characterized by its fervent evangelical style and emphasis on personal piety. Beyond his preaching, Morgan was a prolific writer, contributing frequently to Welsh religious journals and magazines. He also authored several hymns, some of which remain popular in Welsh language hymnals to this day. His writings reflect a deep understanding of scripture and a commitment to Calvinistic theology. He was considered a leading figure in the Calvinistic Methodist denomination during his lifetime and his influence extended across Wales.
