Heartbreaker (2010 film)
Heartbreaker (original French title: L'Arnacoeur) is a 2010 French romantic comedy film directed by Pascal Chaumeil, starring Romain Duris, Vanessa Paradis, and Julie Ferrier. The film centers around Alex Lippi (Romain Duris), a professional "heartbreaker" whose job is to break up relationships, hired by concerned friends and family members of women who are, in their opinion, in unsuitable relationships.
Alex and his sister Mélanie (Julie Ferrier) and her husband Marc (François Damiens) run a discreet and specialized business, employing various methods of sabotage and manipulation to convince the target woman that her relationship is not right for her. They operate under a strict moral code, refusing to break up couples who are truly in love.
However, their principles are challenged when they are hired to break up the impending marriage of Juliette (Vanessa Paradis), a seemingly perfect woman deeply in love with her fiancé, Jonathan (Andrew Lincoln). Juliette's father, fearing she is making a mistake, hires Alex, despite the fact that the wedding is only ten days away.
Alex is forced to navigate a complex situation, attempting to break up a seemingly ideal couple while fighting his growing attraction to Juliette. The film explores themes of love, deception, and the complexities of relationships, ultimately questioning whether true love can be orchestrated or manipulated. It garnered positive reviews for its comedic timing, charming performances, and stylish direction, and was a box office success in France and internationally.
