Hamra (Israeli settlement)
Hamra is an Israeli settlement located in the Jordan Valley of the West Bank. It falls under the jurisdiction of the Bik'at HaYarden Regional Council.
Established in 1972, Hamra is primarily an agricultural community, with its economy based on farming, particularly date palms and other crops suited to the arid climate. The settlement's name, "Hamra," derives from the reddish soil in the area.
The international community considers Israeli settlements in the West Bank illegal under international law, a position disputed by the Israeli government. The legality and future of settlements like Hamra remain a contentious issue in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
