Hajrah

Hajrah, also spelled Hagar (Arabic: هاجر‎, romanized: Hājar), is a significant figure in Abrahamic religions. She is revered in Islam as the wife of the prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) and the mother of the prophet Ismail (Ishmael). The narratives concerning Hajrah differ slightly across Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, but central to her story is her journey with Ibrahim into the desert and her subsequent struggle for survival and that of her son.

In Jewish and Christian traditions, Hagar is primarily understood as Sarah's handmaiden who was offered to Abraham to bear a child. After conceiving Ishmael, tensions arose between Hagar and Sarah, leading to Hagar's expulsion.

In Islam, Hajrah is viewed as a devout and courageous woman of faith. She willingly accompanied Ibrahim to the desolate valley of Mecca upon divine command. When their provisions ran out, she ran back and forth between the hills of Safa and Marwa seven times, desperately seeking water for her thirsty son. According to Islamic tradition, God answered her prayers by bringing forth the Zamzam Well, a miraculous spring that continues to flow in Mecca. This event is commemorated by Muslims during the Hajj pilgrimage through the Sa'i ritual, which involves walking between Safa and Marwa.

Hajrah's story is seen as an example of faith, perseverance, and reliance on God in times of adversity. Her actions and devotion are deeply respected in Islamic tradition.
