Passenger (Mnemic album)
Passenger is the third studio album by Danish industrial metal band Mnemic. It was released in 2007 through Nuclear Blast Records.
The album marks a significant shift in Mnemic's sound, moving away from the heavier, more aggressive style of their earlier albums, Mechanical Spin Phenomena and The Audio Injected Soul, towards a more melodic and atmospheric soundscape. This change incorporated elements of progressive metal and electronica, while still retaining some of the band's signature djent-influenced riffs.
Vocally, Passenger features a blend of clean vocals and harsh screams, with clean vocals taking a more prominent role compared to previous releases. The lyrical themes explored on the album often delve into introspection, personal struggles, and societal commentary.
The album's release was followed by touring in support of bands such as Meshuggah and Machine Head, further exposing Mnemic to a wider audience. Passenger received mixed reviews from critics, with some praising the band's willingness to experiment with their sound and explore new musical territories, while others criticized the album for being less aggressive and lacking the energy of their earlier work. Nevertheless, it remains a notable entry in Mnemic's discography due to its distinct sonic departure.
