George Foster (boxer)

George Foster (1948 – 2002) was an American professional boxer who held the WBC and The Ring light heavyweight titles from 1974 to 1977.

Foster, born in Greenville, Mississippi, began his professional boxing career in 1969. Known for his powerful punching and aggressive style, he quickly rose through the ranks of the light heavyweight division.

He captured the vacant WBC light heavyweight title on June 17, 1974, with a TKO victory over Pierre Fourie. He successfully defended the title against challengers including Jorge Ahumada, Chris Finnegan, and Mike Quarry. He also won The Ring light heavyweight title during his reign.

Foster's title reign ended on October 1, 1977, when he was defeated by John Conteh via unanimous decision. He continued to box for several years after losing his title, but never regained championship form. He retired from boxing in 1982.

Foster died in 2002 at the age of 54. He is remembered as a powerful and exciting light heavyweight champion. His career record stands at 34 wins (32 by knockout) and 8 losses.
