HMS Wintringham (M2777)

HMS Wintringham was a Ham-class minesweeper of the Royal Navy. These vessels were coastal minesweepers designed for clearing shallow waters around the British Isles. Built by John I. Thornycroft & Company, she was launched in 1956. Her pennant number was M2777. As a minesweeper, Wintringham would have been equipped with specialized equipment for detecting and neutralizing naval mines. She was named after the village of Wintringham, Lincolnshire, continuing the Ham-class tradition of naming ships after British villages ending in "-ham". The Ham-class vessels were noted for their wooden construction, which offered reduced magnetic signature and thus greater protection against magnetic mines. After service in the Royal Navy, many Ham-class minesweepers were sold or transferred to other navies, though Wintringham's specific fate requires further research to confirm.
