HMS Whaddon (L45)
HMS Whaddon (L45) was a Hunt-class destroyer of the Royal Navy. She belonged to the Type II subgroup of the class, meaning she possessed a modified armament and improved stability compared to earlier Hunt-class vessels. Launched in 1941 and commissioned in 1942, Whaddon served primarily in the Atlantic and Mediterranean theaters during World War II.
Her duties included convoy escort, anti-submarine warfare, and providing support for amphibious landings. Notably, HMS Whaddon participated in Operation Torch, the Allied landings in North Africa in November 1942, and the Allied invasion of Sicily, Operation Husky, in 1943. She also saw action in the Aegean Sea.
Following the end of the war, HMS Whaddon remained in service with the Royal Navy for several years before being decommissioned and eventually scrapped. She earned battle honours for her service during the war, reflecting her active participation in key campaigns.
