HMS Venom (1794)
HMS Venom (1794) was a Royal Navy gun-brig launched in 1794. She served primarily in the English Channel and off the French coast during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars.
Venom was built by contract at Dover. She was armed with twelve 18-pounder carronades.
Her early service included escort duty and patrols. Venom participated in several actions against French privateers and coastal vessels. While details of specific captures are often sparse in historical records for smaller vessels like gun-brigs, it is documented that she was involved in capturing or assisting in the capture of several French prizes.
Her career was relatively short. HMS Venom was wrecked on 24 December 1799 off the coast of France. All her crew were saved.
