U.K. (band)

U.K. was a British progressive rock supergroup active from 1977 to 1980, and briefly reunited in 2011 and 2012. The band was founded by keyboardist/violinist Eddie Jobson and bassist John Wetton, following the breakup of Roxy Music and King Crimson, respectively. Original members also included guitarist Allan Holdsworth and drummer Bill Bruford.

The initial lineup produced their self-titled debut album U.K. in 1978, which was a commercial success. However, Holdsworth and Bruford departed shortly after its release, citing musical differences; they preferred a more improvisational jazz-rock fusion approach, while Jobson and Wetton favored a more structured, song-oriented sound.

The band continued as a trio with Terry Bozzio on drums, resulting in the studio album Danger Money (1979) and the live album Night After Night (1979). These albums showcased a more streamlined and commercially accessible sound, while still retaining progressive elements.

U.K. disbanded in 1980. Jobson pursued a solo career, and Wetton achieved mainstream success with the band Asia.

In 2011, Jobson and Wetton reunited under the U.K. name, with guitarist Alex Machacek and drummer Marco Minnemann, for a series of concerts documented on the live album Reunion – Live in Tokyo. Further touring was planned but ultimately abandoned due to Wetton's declining health. John Wetton passed away in 2017.
