HMS Sorceress (1916)

HMS Sorceress was a Repeat M-class destroyer built for the Royal Navy during World War I. She was ordered in March 1915 as part of the Fourth War Programme.

Sorceress was built by Scotts Shipbuilding and Engineering Company, Greenock, Scotland. She was laid down in May 1915, launched on 31 January 1916, and completed in April 1916.

Like her sister ships, Sorceress was armed with three 4-inch (102 mm) guns and two 21-inch (533 mm) torpedo tubes. Her propulsion consisted of geared steam turbines powering two shafts, allowing for a speed of around 34 knots.

Throughout World War I, Sorceress served with the Grand Fleet, primarily operating in the North Sea. She performed various duties including escorting convoys, patrolling, and anti-submarine work. There are no records indicating she sank any U-boats.

After the war, Sorceress was placed in reserve. She was eventually sold for scrap on 9 May 1921 to Cashmore of Newport.
