HMS Rockwood (L39)

HMS Rockwood (L39) was a Hunt-class destroyer of the Royal Navy. She was a member of the first group of Hunt-class destroyers, sometimes referred to as the Type I. Rockwood was built by Vickers-Armstrongs at Newcastle-upon-Tyne and launched in December 1941.

Rockwood served primarily in the Mediterranean Theatre during World War II. She participated in numerous convoy escort duties and supported various Allied landings, including Operation Torch (the invasion of North Africa) and the landings in Sicily.

On 11 November 1943, while operating off Kos, Rockwood was heavily damaged by German aircraft. Despite attempts to save her, she was subsequently scuttled to prevent her capture.
