HMS Halsted (K556)

HMS Halsted (K556) was a Captain-class frigate of the Royal Navy that served during World War II. She was one of 78 ships of the class built in the United States and transferred to the Royal Navy under the terms of the Lend-Lease agreement.

Halsted was originally intended to be the USS Klinefelter (DE-22) of the United States Navy, but was re-designated BDE-22 before launching and allocated to the Royal Navy. She was launched on 27 October 1942 by the Bethlehem-Hingham Shipyard, Hingham, Massachusetts and commissioned into the Royal Navy on 27 January 1943.

During her service, Halsted primarily served as a convoy escort in the Atlantic. She was credited with sinking the German U-boat U-212 on 21 August 1944 in the English Channel, in conjunction with HMS Whelp.

Following the end of World War II, Halsted was returned to the United States Navy on 23 August 1945. She was subsequently scrapped.
