HMCS Ottawa (FFH 341)
HMCS Ottawa (FFH 341) is a Halifax-class frigate of the Royal Canadian Navy. She is the sixth ship of her class and the third vessel to bear the name Ottawa. The ship was built by Saint John Shipbuilding, Ltd. in Saint John, New Brunswick and was launched on 31 May 1996. She was commissioned into the Canadian Forces on 28 September 1996 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and is assigned to Maritime Forces Pacific (MARPAC), based at CFB Esquimalt in British Columbia.
Ottawa's primary missions include maritime interdiction operations, anti-submarine warfare, and anti-surface warfare. She carries a crew of approximately 225 officers and sailors. The ship is equipped with a variety of sensors and weapons systems, including a 57 mm gun, Sea Sparrow surface-to-air missiles, Harpoon anti-ship missiles, and torpedoes. She is also equipped with a CH-148 Cyclone helicopter.
Ottawa has participated in numerous international exercises and operations, including deployments to the Arabian Sea as part of Operation Apollo, Canada's contribution to the war in Afghanistan, and deployments to the Pacific Ocean as part of Canada's ongoing commitment to security in the region. She has also been involved in humanitarian assistance operations, such as providing aid to communities affected by natural disasters. The ship undergoes periodic refits and upgrades to maintain its operational effectiveness.
