Gorilla Jones ("The Fighting Gorilla")

Gorilla Jones (born Robert James, c. 1906 – August 26, 1982) was an American professional wrestler known for his flamboyant personality and in-ring antics. While his real name was Robert James, he achieved fame under the moniker "Gorilla Jones," often billed as "The Fighting Gorilla."

Jones wrestled primarily from the 1930s to the 1960s. He was known for his theatrical presentation, which included ape-like mannerisms and gestures. He was not known for his wrestling prowess in the strictest sense, but rather for his showmanship and his ability to engage the audience. He cultivated an image of a wild man, often grunting and beating his chest, which contributed to his popularity.

Throughout his career, Jones wrestled in various territories across the United States and Canada. While he didn't achieve world championship status, he was a popular draw and a reliable performer. His legacy lies primarily in his contribution to the spectacle and entertainment aspect of professional wrestling, foreshadowing later "gimmick" wrestlers. He passed away in 1982.
