HMAS Huon (M 82)
HMAS Huon (M 82) is the lead ship of the Huon-class minehunter coastal of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). Laid down in 1993 and commissioned in 1999, the vessel is named after the Huon River in Tasmania. The Huon-class minehunters were designed to locate and neutralize sea mines using a combination of sonar, video, and remotely operated vehicles. Huon has participated in various exercises and operations, both domestically and internationally, demonstrating the RAN's mine warfare capabilities. The ship is based at HMAS Waterhen in Sydney. The Huon-class are based on the Italian Gaeta-class minehunters.
