Guiers

The Guiers is a river in southeastern France. It is a tributary of the Rhône, joining it on the Rhône's left bank.

The Guiers is formed by the confluence of two branches: the Guiers Vif ("live Guiers") and the Guiers Mort ("dead Guiers"). The Guiers Vif has its source in the Chartreuse Mountains, while the Guiers Mort drains the southeastern part of the same range.

The river flows generally southwest through the departments of Savoie (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region) and Isère (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region), forming part of the border between these two departments. Key towns along its course include Saint-Laurent-du-Pont, Pont-de-Beauvoisin (both Savoie and Isère have a town of this name) and Les Échelles.

The Guiers is known for its clear water and the picturesque landscapes it flows through, making it popular for fishing and recreational activities. It has historically been used for powering mills and other industries.
