Grand Theft Auto (film)

Grand Theft Auto is a 1977 American action comedy film co-written, directed by and starring Ron Howard in his directorial debut. The film also stars Nancy Morgan, Elizabeth Rogers, and Rance Howard.

The plot revolves around Sam Freeman (Howard) and Paula Powers (Morgan), a young couple who steal Paula's father's Rolls Royce and elope to Las Vegas to get married, pursued by Paula's family, her arranged fiancé, and numerous bounty hunters and other individuals seeking the substantial reward offered for the car's return and the capture of the couple. The film is characterized by its extensive car chases, stunts, and comedic situations. It was produced by Roger Corman's New World Pictures. While not a critical darling, Grand Theft Auto was a commercial success, setting the stage for Howard's subsequent, more critically acclaimed directorial career.
