George Andrews (bishop)

George Andrews (1792 – 1861) was an Irish clergyman who served as the Church of Ireland Bishop of Down, Connor and Dromore.

Born in County Antrim, Andrews was educated at Trinity College Dublin, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1813 and a Doctor of Divinity degree in 1840. He was ordained a deacon in 1815 and a priest in 1816.

Andrews served as the Dean of St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin, from 1828 until his elevation to the episcopate. He was appointed Bishop of Down, Connor and Dromore in 1848, a position he held until his death in 1861. During his tenure, he was known for his efforts in church building and restoration, as well as his promotion of education within the diocese.
