Golfsmith
Golfsmith was a specialty retailer of golf equipment, apparel, and accessories. Founded in 1967 as a mail-order business, it expanded into brick-and-mortar retail locations across the United States. Golfsmith offered a wide selection of golf clubs, golf balls, golf apparel, shoes, and related golfing gear from various manufacturers. The company also provided services such as club repair, club fitting, and golf lessons.
Over time, Golfsmith acquired other golf retailers, including Golf Town in Canada. However, the company faced financial difficulties and filed for bankruptcy in 2016. The Golfsmith brand and assets were acquired by Golf Galaxy, a subsidiary of Dick's Sporting Goods. Following the acquisition, many Golfsmith stores were rebranded as Golf Galaxy locations. As of the current date, the Golfsmith brand primarily exists online as part of the Golf Galaxy website, though the distinct Golfsmith retail presence has largely disappeared. The company's history represents a significant chapter in the evolution of the golf retail landscape.
