Gjallarhorn (band)
Gjallarhorn is a Finnish band that plays folk music influenced by the Swedish-speaking minority in Finland. Their music is characterized by a blend of traditional Scandinavian melodies and rhythms with modern arrangements and instrumentation. The band's name comes from the horn of the Norse god Heimdallr.
Gjallarhorn was formed in 1994 by Jenny Wilhelms, who serves as the lead vocalist and plays the fiddle. The band's sound is often described as ethereal and evocative, drawing on themes from Nordic mythology, nature, and history. In addition to the fiddle and vocals, Gjallarhorn’s music features instruments such as the didgeridoo, various percussion instruments, and electronic effects.
Their albums have received critical acclaim, both in Scandinavia and internationally, and they have toured extensively throughout Europe and North America. Gjallarhorn is considered a key act in the contemporary Nordic folk music scene.
