German submarine U-122 (1939)

U-122 was a German Type IXB U-boat of Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine during World War II. She was laid down on 15 December 1939 at the DeSchiMAG AG Weser shipyard in Bremen as yard number 970, launched on 20 June 1940, and commissioned on 25 September 1940 under the command of Kapitänleutnant Hans-Günther Looff.

U-122 conducted one patrol. She departed Kiel on 9 February 1941, and her patrol was intended to take her into the North Atlantic. On 22 February 1941, U-122 was sunk in the North Atlantic, in position 61°30′N 15°49′W, by depth charges from the British corvette HMS Vichy. All 53 crew members perished.

She was a relatively large submarine, displacing 1,051 tonnes when surfaced and 1,178 tonnes when submerged. She had a length of 76.76 m (251 ft 10 in), a beam of 6.76 m (22 ft 2 in), and a draught of 4.70 m (15 ft 5 in). Her propulsion was provided by two MAN M 9 V 40/46 supercharged four-stroke, nine-cylinder diesel engines for surface running and two Brown, Boveri & Cie GG UB 720/8 double-acting electric motors for submerged running.
