George Russell (racing driver)

George Russell (born 15 February 1998) is a British racing driver currently competing in Formula One for Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team. He is a graduate of the Mercedes-Benz Driver Programme.

Russell won the GP3 Series championship in 2017 and the Formula 2 Championship in 2018, both in his debut year. He made his Formula One debut with Williams Racing in 2019, partnering Robert Kubica. He remained with Williams until the end of the 2021 season, demonstrating significant talent despite the team's struggles.

In 2020, Russell substituted for Lewis Hamilton at the Sakhir Grand Prix after Hamilton tested positive for COVID-19. He qualified second and led most of the race before a pit stop error and a puncture denied him a potential victory.

Russell joined Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team in 2022, alongside Lewis Hamilton. He secured his first Formula One victory at the 2022 São Paulo Grand Prix. He finished fourth in the 2022 drivers' championship.
