Gary Brown (running back)
Gary Brown (born September 15, 1969, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, died April 10, 2022) was an American professional football player and coach. He played as a running back in the National Football League (NFL) for eight seasons, from 1991 to 1999.
Brown was drafted by the Houston Oilers in the eighth round of the 1991 NFL Draft. He played for the Oilers (later renamed the Tennessee Oilers) from 1991 to 1997. He is best known for his time with the Dallas Cowboys, where he played from 1998 to 1999 and was a member of the Super Bowl XXX winning team. He provided a strong inside running presence alongside Emmitt Smith during that championship season.
After his playing career, Brown transitioned into coaching. He served as a running backs coach for several college and NFL teams, including Rutgers University, the Cleveland Browns, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Wisconsin Badgers. He was known for his ability to develop running backs and his passionate coaching style. His coaching successes include working with notable running backs such as Trent Richardson, Eddie Lacy, and Melvin Gordon. He took pride in mentoring young players and helping them reach their full potential.
