Galois (crater)
Galois is a lunar impact crater that lies on the far side of the Moon. It is located to the southwest of the larger crater Korolev, and east-northeast of Moiseev.
This crater is heavily eroded and damaged, with a somewhat irregular outer rim that is notched and incised by smaller impacts. The interior floor is relatively level, but marked by several small and tiny craterlets. There is a small, bowl-shaped crater attached to the southern exterior. Several smaller craters lie near the rim along the northwest and north sides.
Due to its location on the far side of the Moon, Galois cannot be viewed directly from Earth, and can only be observed from spacecraft.
Galois is named after Évariste Galois, a French mathematician who died at the age of 20.
