Foldereid

Foldereid is a former municipality in the Nord-Trøndelag county of Norway. It existed from 1886 until its dissolution in 1964.

History:

Foldereid was established as a municipality on January 1, 1886, when the large municipality of Kolvereid was divided into three separate municipalities: Foldereid, Leka, and Kolvereid. The municipality encompassed the area surrounding the Foldafjord. During its existence, Foldereid consisted of the land surrounding the innermost parts of the Foldafjord, an important waterway. On January 1, 1964, Foldereid was merged with the neighboring municipalities of Kolvereid, Gravvik, and Nærøy to form the new, larger municipality of Nærøy.

Geography:

Foldereid was geographically located on the mainland along the Foldafjord. The landscape is characterized by a mix of coastal terrain and forests.

Economy:

Historically, the economy of Foldereid was based on agriculture, forestry, and fishing. Proximity to the Foldafjord provided opportunities for fishing and maritime transport.
