Lyman Law

Lyman Law (1759-1842) was an American lawyer, judge, and politician from Connecticut. He served as a U.S. Representative for Connecticut's at-large congressional district from 1817 to 1823.

Born in New London, Connecticut, Law graduated from Yale College in 1787. He then studied law and was admitted to the bar, establishing a legal practice in New London.

Law held various local and state political positions before being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. He was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives in multiple terms between 1796 and 1817 and also served as a judge of the New London County Court.

In Congress, Law was a member of the Federalist Party. His tenure coincided with the Era of Good Feelings, a period of relative national unity following the War of 1812, but also included debates surrounding issues such as tariffs and internal improvements.

After leaving Congress, Law returned to Connecticut and resumed his legal practice. He continued to participate in local affairs and remained a respected figure in his community until his death. His contributions were primarily in the legal and political spheres of early 19th-century Connecticut and the United States.
