Phil Johnston (filmmaker)

Phil Johnston is an American screenwriter, director, producer, and voice actor, primarily known for his work in animated films.

Johnston began his career in television writing for shows such as 3rd Rock from the Sun and Kim Possible. His breakthrough in animated feature films came with his work as a screenwriter on Disney's Wreck-It Ralph (2012), for which he received critical acclaim and an Annie Award nomination.

Following the success of Wreck-It Ralph, Johnston co-wrote the screenplay for Disney's Zootopia (2016), which won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. He is also credited as a writer on Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018), which he also co-directed with Rich Moore. In addition to writing and directing, Johnston also provides voice acting for some of the characters in his films.

His work is generally characterized by its clever humor, heartfelt storytelling, and exploration of complex themes relevant to both children and adults. Johnston continues to be a prominent figure in the animation industry.
