Hu Fuguo

Hu Fuguo (胡富国, born in November 1945) is a retired Chinese politician and businessman. He is best known for his tenure as the Party Secretary of Shanxi Province from 1993 to 1999.

Hu Fuguo was born in Changzhi, Shanxi Province. He joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 1966. Before his provincial leadership role, he held various positions within the Shanxi provincial government, primarily focused on economic development and industrial management.

As Party Secretary of Shanxi, Hu Fuguo oversaw a period of economic growth and modernization in the province, which is a major coal-producing region. He emphasized the importance of improving infrastructure and attracting foreign investment. However, his tenure also faced challenges related to corruption and environmental degradation associated with the coal industry.

Following his time as Party Secretary, Hu Fuguo served as the Deputy Director of the State Council's Poverty Alleviation Leading Group, focusing on efforts to reduce poverty in rural areas of China.

Later in his career, Hu Fuguo became involved in the private sector, serving in leadership positions in various companies, including China National Coal Group Corporation.

He is regarded as a figure who transitioned from a prominent political career to involvement in the business world, a common trajectory for some retired Chinese officials.
