Filmjölk
Filmjölk (pronounced [ˈfɪlːmjœlk]) is a traditional Swedish fermented milk product. It is similar to yogurt in texture and is often described as having a slightly sour or tangy flavor. Filmjölk is made by fermenting milk with a culture of Lactococcus lactis and Leuconostoc bacteria, which also contribute to its characteristic flavor and texture. Some varieties also contain Lactococcus mesenteroides.
Consumption of filmjölk is common in Sweden and other Nordic countries. It is typically eaten cold, often for breakfast or as a snack. It can be consumed plain or with additions such as fruit, muesli, or granola.
Filmjölk is available in a variety of fat contents, ranging from low-fat to full-fat. It is also available in flavored varieties, such as strawberry and vanilla.
Due to the presence of live and active cultures, filmjölk is considered a probiotic food. Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that can improve gut health. Filmjölk is believed to offer several health benefits, including improved digestion and immune function.
