Decimate (game show)

Decimate was a British game show that aired on BBC One from 2015 to 2016. The show was hosted by Shane Lowe.

Gameplay:

The format involved a team of ten contestants who started with a prize fund of £10,000. Each round featured general knowledge questions. If a contestant answered incorrectly, they were "decimated," meaning they were eliminated from the game, and a portion of the prize fund, proportional to the number of contestants remaining, was removed. For instance, if there were ten contestants, each wrong answer would reduce the prize fund by £1,000. As the number of contestants decreased, the monetary loss per wrong answer increased. The goal was for the remaining contestants to survive until the final round and share whatever money was left in the prize fund.

The show utilized a distinctive set featuring ten numbered plinths where the contestants stood. When a contestant was decimated, their plinth would retract into the floor.

Cancellation:

Decimate was cancelled after two series. Critical reception was mixed, and the show struggled to achieve high ratings. While the format was intended to create tension and drama, some viewers found it repetitive and predictable.
