Fancy (Bobbie Gentry album)
Fancy is the sixth and final studio album by American country and pop singer Bobbie Gentry. It was released in 1970 on Capitol Records. The album is best known for its title track, "Fancy," a song written by Gentry herself which became her biggest hit and is considered her signature song.
The album features a mix of country, soul, and pop influences, showcasing Gentry's versatility as a singer. While "Fancy" is the clear standout, the album also includes other notable tracks such as "Delta Man," "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head," and covers of songs by Kris Kristofferson and Tony Joe White.
Fancy reached number 18 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and number 113 on the Billboard 200. The single "Fancy" peaked at number 31 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 8 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart, becoming a crossover hit.
The album's release followed a period of relative commercial decline for Gentry after her initial success with "Ode to Billie Joe." While Fancy did not fully restore her to her previous level of popularity, the success of the title track cemented her legacy as a talented songwriter and performer. The album is now considered a classic example of Southern soul-infused country music.
