Eta Ceti

Eta Ceti (η Cet / η Ceti), also known as Deneb Algenubi, is a giant star located approximately 117 light-years away in the constellation Cetus.

It is classified as a G8 III-IV star, meaning it is a star that is in the transitional phase between a subgiant and a giant. This indicates that it has exhausted the hydrogen fuel in its core and is expanding and cooling as it begins to fuse helium into heavier elements.

Eta Ceti has a luminosity approximately 80 times that of the Sun and a radius about 13 times larger. Its surface temperature is around 5,000 Kelvin, giving it a yellow-orange hue.

The name Deneb Algenubi is derived from Arabic, meaning "the Southern Tail (of the Whale)." This reflects its position in the constellation Cetus, which is often depicted as a sea monster or whale.

Eta Ceti is not known to have any companions or be part of a star system. Its primary significance is as a bright star in the constellation Cetus and an example of a star in a relatively advanced stage of stellar evolution.
