Eric Lane (legal scholar)

Eric Lane is an American legal scholar specializing in state and local government law, constitutional law, and statutory interpretation. He is a Professor of Law Emeritus at the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University.

Lane is known for his scholarship on state constitutional law, municipal law, and the relationship between state and local governments. He has written extensively on topics such as home rule, land use regulation, and the powers and limitations of state legislatures.

He is the co-author of "Local Government Law in a Nutshell," a widely used textbook for law students studying local government law. His work is frequently cited by courts and other scholars in the field.
