Enos (biblical figure)

Enos (also spelled Enosh) is a figure in the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) and is mentioned in the Book of Genesis. He is the son of Seth and the grandson of Adam and Eve. According to Genesis 5:6-11, Enos lived for 905 years.

Enos is significant because the biblical text states that during his lifetime, people began to call upon the name of the Lord (Genesis 4:26). This is often interpreted as the beginning of organized worship or the first public invocation of God's name, marking a shift towards a more formalized religious practice. The verse is often debated, with some scholars suggesting it refers to a corruption of worship, while others see it as a positive development.

His lineage is traced through the generations from Adam to Noah, highlighting his importance in the early history of humanity as presented in the Bible. He is included in the genealogy of Jesus in the Gospel of Luke (Luke 3:38). Enos is considered a righteous figure in Jewish and Christian tradition.
