Endor (Star Wars)

Endor, in the fictional universe of Star Wars, refers primarily to two distinct but related entities: the forest moon of Endor and the gas giant Endor that it orbits.

• The Forest Moon of Endor: This is a small, habitable moon covered in dense forests, grasslands, and mountains. It is the location of the climactic Battle of Endor in Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi. The moon is inhabited by various species, most notably the Ewoks, a primitive but resourceful species of sentient teddy bear-like creatures. The moon’s environment plays a significant role in the Rebel Alliance's victory over the Galactic Empire, as the Ewoks' knowledge of the terrain and their guerilla warfare tactics prove crucial in defeating the Imperial ground forces protecting the shield generator. This shield generator was essential to protecting the second Death Star, which orbited Endor during the battle.

• The Gas Giant Endor: This is the large gas giant planet that the forest moon orbits. Its gravitational pull keeps the moon in orbit. Little is known about the gas giant itself beyond its orbital relationship with the forest moon. Its presence is significant as it defines the moon’s environment and its place within the galactic star system. The destruction of the second Death Star resulted in debris raining down onto the forest moon, though the immediate consequences for the moon's inhabitants were never depicted onscreen.
