Emil Fick

Emil Fick (1849 – 1934) was a German anatomist and embryologist. He is best known for his contributions to the understanding of muscle physiology and development.

Fick studied medicine at the University of Würzburg, receiving his doctorate in 1874. He became a professor of anatomy at the University of Zurich in 1881 and later held professorships at the University of Marburg and the University of Berlin.

His research focused extensively on the structure and function of muscles, including detailed investigations into muscle fiber arrangement and the mechanisms of muscle contraction. He also made significant contributions to the field of embryology, studying the development of various organ systems.

Fick's publications included numerous articles in scientific journals and several influential textbooks on anatomy and embryology.
