Eileen (film)

Eileen is a 2023 American psychological thriller film directed by William Oldroyd. The screenplay is by Oldroyd and Ottessa Moshfegh, based on Moshfegh's 2015 novel of the same name. The film stars Thomasin McKenzie as the titular Eileen Dunlop, a young woman working a dreary job at a juvenile correctional facility in 1960s Massachusetts, and Anne Hathaway as Rebecca St. John, a charismatic and enigmatic psychologist who arrives at the prison and disrupts Eileen's monotonous life. The film explores themes of isolation, repressed desires, and the complex relationship between the two women as Eileen becomes increasingly drawn to Rebecca and entangled in her secrets. The supporting cast includes Shea Whigham and Marin Ireland.
