SeaLand

SeaLand Corporation was a global container shipping company. Founded in 1956 by Malcom McLean, it is widely credited with pioneering containerization and revolutionizing global trade. McLean, a trucking entrepreneur, envisioned a more efficient way to transport goods, leading to the development of standardized shipping containers and specialized ships to carry them.

SeaLand's early operations focused on the US East Coast and gradually expanded to international routes. The company played a pivotal role in establishing container terminals and infrastructure worldwide.

In 1999, SeaLand was acquired by A.P. Moller–Maersk Group, the world's largest container shipping company. The SeaLand name continued to be used for Maersk's intra-Americas shipping business until 2014, when Maersk Line rebranded its regional service as SeaLand, A Maersk Company.

While the original SeaLand Corporation no longer exists as an independent entity, its legacy remains significant. Its contributions to containerization have fundamentally transformed global logistics and supply chains, making international trade faster, cheaper, and more efficient. The SeaLand name, under Maersk, continues to operate regionally, demonstrating the enduring recognition of the brand within the shipping industry.
