Double Concerto (Lutosławski)

The Double Concerto for Oboe, Harp, and Chamber Orchestra is a late work by the Polish composer Witold Lutosławski. Commissioned by Paul Sacher, it was composed between 1979 and 1980 and premiered in Basel on October 16, 1980, with Heinz Holliger on oboe, Ursula Holliger on harp, and the Collegium Musicum Zürich conducted by the dedicatee, Paul Sacher.

The work is approximately 25 minutes in duration and is generally considered to be in one continuous movement, although it can be divided into several sections. The concerto is characteristic of Lutosławski's mature style, utilizing aleatoric counterpoint and precisely notated passages alongside sections of controlled improvisation.
