Taunton Castle (1790 EIC ship)

The Taunton Castle was an East Indiaman launched in 1790 for the British East India Company (EIC). She made six voyages for the company, primarily to China and India.

Her career included participation in several notable events. During the French Revolutionary Wars and Napoleonic Wars, she played a role in conveying troops and supplies, and on at least one occasion, engaged in combat with enemy vessels.

Taunton Castle's voyages typically involved transporting goods such as tea, silk, spices, and textiles from the East to Britain, and carrying bullion, supplies, and passengers on the outward journeys.

The vessel's details included a burthen of approximately 820 tons. She was owned by the EIC and contracted to various captains throughout her service.

The Taunton Castle was eventually sold out of EIC service in 1803. Her subsequent fate is not well-documented.
