Dixie Howell (catcher)

Dixie Howell (born Dixie Carroll Howell, July 7, 1941, Colquitt, Georgia – November 1, 2019, Colquitt, Georgia) was an American former professional baseball player. He played as a catcher in Major League Baseball (MLB) for five seasons, from 1964 to 1968.

Howell was signed as an amateur free agent by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1960. He made his major league debut with the Dodgers on April 26, 1964. Primarily a backup catcher, he played for the Dodgers (1964-1965) and the Baltimore Orioles (1967-1968). He appeared in a total of 111 major league games, compiling a .230 batting average with 4 home runs and 25 RBIs.

After his playing career, Howell returned to Colquitt, Georgia, where he was involved in various business ventures and remained active in the local community.
