Hortia

Hortia is a genus of flowering plants in the family Rutaceae. These plants are native to South America, primarily Brazil. Hortia species are typically shrubs or small trees characterized by their opposite leaves and often fragrant flowers.

The flowers of Hortia are usually white or yellowish, with four petals. The fruit is a capsule. Some species of Hortia are used in traditional medicine.

The genus Hortia is named in honor of Dr. Garcia de Orta, a Portuguese physician and botanist who lived in the 16th century and made significant contributions to the knowledge of medicinal plants in the East Indies.

Relatively little is known about some species within the genus, and further research is often needed to fully understand their distribution, ecology, and potential uses.
