Denis Obua (footballer)
Denis Obua (13 June 1947 – 4 May 2010) was a Ugandan footballer, considered one of the country's greatest players. He played as a forward and was known for his pace, dribbling skills, and goal-scoring ability.
Obua played club football primarily for Police FC in Uganda, where he won multiple league titles. He also had brief spells with other clubs.
At the international level, Obua captained the Uganda national team, the Cranes, for many years. He played in three Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, helping Uganda reach the final in 1978, where they lost to Ghana. He is regarded as a national hero and a legend of Ugandan football.
After his playing career, Obua served as president of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) from 2005 until he was suspended by FIFA in 2009.
He died in May 2010, leaving behind a significant legacy in Ugandan football. His son, David Obua, also became a prominent footballer, playing for clubs in South Africa and Scotland, as well as the Ugandan national team.
