David Noonan (artist)
David Noonan (born 1969, Ballarat, Australia) is a contemporary artist known for his collage-based practice, encompassing film, sculpture, and, most notably, silkscreened linen panels. He currently lives and works in London.
Noonan's work often draws from a diverse range of sources, including vintage photographs, film stills, and archival materials. These images are typically fragmented, layered, and manipulated to create enigmatic and atmospheric compositions. His aesthetic frequently incorporates a muted palette and a distinctive use of texture, achieved through the silkscreen printing process onto linen.
The themes explored in Noonan’s art are varied but often touch upon notions of memory, nostalgia, the subconscious, and the blurring of reality and fiction. His figures, frequently anonymous or ambiguous, inhabit spaces that suggest theatrical stages or dreamscapes.
Noonan's work has been exhibited internationally in numerous solo and group exhibitions. He has had solo shows at institutions such as the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, the Chisenhale Gallery in London, and the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art in Melbourne. His work is included in the collections of major museums worldwide.
