David Harris (Illinois politician)
David Harris (born November 30, 1937) is an American politician who served as a Republican member of the Illinois House of Representatives, representing the 53rd district from 2011 to 2019. The 53rd district encompassed portions of suburban Cook County, Illinois, including Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect, and Prospect Heights.
Harris had a long career in public service prior to his election to the Illinois House. He served in the United States Army Reserve, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He also worked as a budget analyst for the Illinois Department of Public Aid and as the director of the Illinois Department of Revenue under Governor Jim Edgar.
During his tenure in the Illinois House, Harris served on several committees, including the Appropriations-Human Services Committee and the Revenue & Finance Committee. He was known for his fiscally conservative views and advocated for property tax relief.
Harris chose not to run for re-election in 2018.
