Keith Stewart (Royal Navy officer)

Keith Stewart (1739 – 3 July 1795) was a British Royal Navy officer and politician who served as a Member of Parliament for various constituencies.

Stewart entered the Royal Navy in 1753 and rose through the ranks, gaining command of HMS Savage in 1762. He saw active service during the Seven Years' War. During the American Revolutionary War, he commanded HMS Preston.

He was appointed Comptroller of the Navy in 1771, a position he held until 1775. He subsequently held commands including HMS Cambridge and HMS Berwick.

Beyond his naval career, Stewart served as a Member of Parliament for Weymouth and Melcombe Regis from 1768 to 1774, for Portsmouth from 1774 to 1784, and for Morayshire from 1784 until his death. His political connections and naval service often intertwined.

He achieved the rank of Vice-Admiral of the Blue in 1794, shortly before his death the following year. He was the fourth son of Alexander Stewart, 6th Earl of Galloway.
