David Dawson (painter)

David Dawson (born 1960) is a British painter primarily known for his intimate portraits and still life paintings. He studied at Saint Martin's School of Art and the Royal College of Art in London. Dawson's work often features subjects from his close personal life, including friends, family, and his partner, the late painter Lucian Freud.

His style is characterized by a close attention to detail and a delicate handling of light and texture, creating a sense of quiet observation. Dawson's portraits are admired for their psychological depth and sensitivity, capturing the individuality of his sitters with a palpable honesty. He works primarily in oil paint, building up layers of тонкие (thin) glazes to achieve luminous effects.

Dawson's work has been exhibited in numerous solo and group shows internationally, including at the National Portrait Gallery in London. He is considered an important figure in contemporary British painting, continuing a tradition of figurative art with a distinctly personal and contemporary voice. He is also known for his role in preserving and documenting Lucian Freud's studio and legacy after Freud's death in 2011. He continues to paint and exhibit his work.
