Danmark (ship, 1932)
The Danmark is a full-rigged ship owned by the Danish government and operated by the Maritime Academy of Denmark. Built in 1932 at the Nakskov Skibsvaerft shipyard in Nakskov, Denmark, she serves as a training vessel for young people seeking careers at sea.
Danmark is a steel-hulled vessel with three masts. She is primarily powered by sail but also has an auxiliary diesel engine for maneuvering in port or in adverse weather conditions. The ship's primary function is to provide practical training in seamanship, navigation, and ship handling.
During World War II, Danmark was in the United States and, to avoid being seized by the Germans, was placed under the command of the US Coast Guard in 1941. She served as a training vessel for Coast Guard cadets until the end of the war, before being returned to Denmark in 1945.
Danmark regularly participates in tall ship races and visits ports around the world, serving as an ambassador for Denmark and promoting maritime careers. She is a well-known and respected vessel in the international sailing community.
