Dan White (quarterback)
Dan White (born September 26, 1952) is a former American football quarterback who played in the National Football League (NFL) and the Canadian Football League (CFL).
White played college football at Arizona State University, where he led the Sun Devils to an undefeated season and Fiesta Bowl victory in 1975. He was named the Fiesta Bowl MVP and earned All-American honors.
He was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the sixth round of the 1975 NFL Draft but was traded to the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL before ever playing for the Cowboys. He spent one season with the Alouettes (1976) before returning to the NFL.
White played for the Dallas Cowboys from 1976 to 1985, serving primarily as a backup to Roger Staubach. He took over as the starting quarterback in 1980 after Staubach's retirement. In his first season as a starter, he led the Cowboys to Super Bowl XIII, where they lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also led the Cowboys to the NFC Championship Game in 1981, where they lost to the San Francisco 49ers on "The Catch."
White was known for his scrambling ability and his toughness. He retired from the NFL after the 1985 season.
